in a quandry about which scr to use.
the attached schematic shows proposed circuit.
the 4n26 turns on the scr. when the opti turns off the scr/relay combo stays on until desired battery charge is achieved.
I know it isn't pretty but had to do lots of substituting so all the parts could be purchased from the electronics goldmine.
its a challenge. kinda reverse engineering.

the holding current is whats throwing me fits but haven't done much with scrs. In this circuit I am switching dc not ac. the contacts are connected to an ac charger. the circuit opens the relay contacts when desired charge is achieved.
the 4n26 requires a max of 10 ma on the led thats why the 1k ohm resistor

oups need additional triac

need to add either scr or triac to control the ac charger
the scr is turned on by by the 4n26 (opti 1) then turned off when the relay contcts open due to reaching desired charge.
if connected as per schematic, the ac charger will be on all the time until desired charge is obtained thus opening the relay 1 contacts.
the ac charger only comes on when battery falls below 10 volts.
the solar charger comes on when batteries fall below 12v
both voltage trip points are adjustable.

got to be a better solution??

thinking of alternative methods??
scenario = opti 1 turns on when battery voltage goes down to 11v
opti2 turns on when battery voltage drops to 10v.
upon dropping to 10v the AC battery charger kicks in.
the relay/diodes/transistor circuit opens (relay RLY2 turns on thus turning off ac charger when 13.5+ volts are obtained.
the scr connected to opti1 prevents RLY2 from staying on (charger off)
opti1 output enables the RLY2 circuit when 10v or less are achieved.
the scr on the relay contacts prevent the AC charger from running all the time.
AC charger stays on until RLY2 contacts open (13.5+ is achieved)
any better solutions
