tri-colour LEDs

I suspect this is a stupid question, but...

Is there a way to connect tri-colour LEDs serially? I'm switching between the three colours for four LEDS simultaneously, I know I can connect them in parallel but I don't really want all those resistors (though that's pure laziness).
