Switching between two 555 based servo controllers on a single servo.

Hello,

We have a project that needs a servo to move between 2 preset positions. The positions will be defined by a pair of 555 servo controllers with the final resting positions adjusted by a potentiometer on each circuit. We chose the 555 based servo controller for cost, simplicity and durability in the project environment. The first position will be neutral, the second position will be the travel throw required to pull the lever that depresses the air horn button. The switching between the two 555 controllers will vary between two patterns. Pattern 1 will be initiated if a specific wire is cut or a mercury switch is engaged. Pattern 2 will be initiated if a timer expires or a different wire is cut.

Pattern 1
A single switch lasting X seconds, where X is a variable amount of time (we’re thinking about 4 seconds right now). We would like to be able to adjust the time variable if we decide it is not long enough, or is too short.

Pattern 2
A batch of 5 switches to the extended position each lasting .50 to .75 seconds. (we have not determined the exact time period yet.) As above, we would like to be able to adjust the time variable if we decide it is not long enough, or is too short.

Our dilemmas;
1) How to switch between the two 555 signals for the required pattern.

2) The Pattern programs.

Thank you in advance for your help.
