I think what's happened here, is the original posting got answered OK, the OP found that a timer is possible, some conclusions got made, Some concise requirements about what the circuit needs to do were posted.
Then the OP was waiting for someone to pick this up who can help proceed with a PIC solution, hoping that a PICy type was tuned in and would see this thread. Instead we were looking for problems, asking questions that OP considered going over the same ground again.
There's some really good stuff on youtube. All sorts of techy stuff, I've trolled around there too and posted stuff there. They say a schematic paints a thousand words, but a youtube video paints thousands of images!
