We are trying to repair a CNC machine board. Trying to ID components is very difficult. A way to narrow the search is knowing what type of component we are dealing with. The PCBs are from Japan.

They have CR, R, C, etc. We have some with screened wording "A" and no idea what that is. These are all semiconductors and one we are looking at close is in a TO-92 package.

Oddly enough my work just had to have an obsolete controller board repaired for one of their Japanese vertical mills... Cost nearly 8000 dollars to repair. To-92 case are generic there could be any number of a few hundred devices in there. We might have a possibility of guessing if you could include some decent photos.
