Sound of my multimedia speaker was fading for few weeks and now its gone. Someone told me it might be the sound transformer. Is this a transistor or capacitor? How do you identify or test this part from the cicuit board? Your advise is much appreciated. Thanks.
A transformer is a transformer. It's neither a capacitor or transistor.
It looks like a big coil of wire rather than a round metal can (electrolytic capacitor) or a small black-coloured chip-like box with a metal tab on it (transistor).
I don't think transformers fail that much though...it always seems to be the capacitors.
