Hi to all friends here
I am self educated in electronics and i know just the base ..
I have find some useful schematics in the Internet about building ''meters' with the LM3914
My project is to make some meters for my car ..
Oil temperature, RPM , Oil pressure , Battery meter etc...
I have install in my car the sensors and i measure them.. when it is cold the sensors give me 12v in their output signal.. and as the car works the sensors drop the voltage..
for example ''oil temp'' sensor at start gives 12v and after while when oil warm i have 8,9v
So my question is :
What can i do about the 12v signal ? the LM3914 as i read accept only 0-5v input signal ..
Should i place a resistor before the LM3914 input signal to drop 12v to 5 v ?
Next question : If i understand well in the LM3914 every time we change the value of the input voltage it changes the status in the led...
let say that we have 1v so the LM3914 power on the 1s led , and when we place 2v signal then it powers on the 2nd led (as a bar or just only this one in dot mode)
can we make it work ''power on every time one led'' but when we reduce the voltage signal ?
Here is a basic schematic to have it as a reference in our discussion
