We all know those little Vespa/moped bikes are a massive pain in the arse because of thier nasty weedy sounding engine, but i've noticed now that they are causing interferance with TV too. I don't know why, but as the come nearer, the interferance gets quite bad, perhaps within a 60m radius, and people seem to like riding them round near us, not going anywhere, just riding them. Does anyone know wy this it, is it to do with an unsupressed motor/alternator? Cars and busses are fine.

Some TVs are not well shielded and pick up interference thru the IF. Try wrapping aluminium foil around it (don't cut off air circulation) and see if that helps.

Simply change the spark plug to one with an Resistor in it, problem fixed. What plug is in there now and i could tell you what you could use.

edit: sorry i re-read your question, they are noisey because they have no Rf supression at all, by changing the plug or plug cap to a resistor one it will solve the problem, you can mention that to them if they are prepare to stop and chat, else you could just call the FCC or whoever it is that handles radio/tv interference in your area..or just run some strong fishing line between the lamp posts..oops, forget i said that.

RF interference complaints have to be payed for in the UK, they stopped being free MANY years ago - you have to get a form, fill it in, and send it off with a cheque. They also wouldn't have any powers to do anything about the scooters, UNLESS they have been modified in some way, if they are standard they presumably meet the relevent regulations?.

A major reason for interference like this is that your signals are excessively weak, thus the TV gain is flat out, and the low level RFI from the scooters can cause interference.

As suggested, plugs or leads with in-built suppression resistors on the scooters would probably cure the problem!.

As for fishing line, I prefer copper wire

Yeah, I think your right about the weak signals, its a bad reception area and it doesn't seem to take much to interfere with it. There probably isn't much that can be done :x
