Timer Circuit

I need to design and build a timer circuit that meets the following criteria. I am a relative novice but very handy.

1. Switch to power timer circuitry

2. Switches a 12V DC circuit carrying 12A

3. Circuit powered for 5 seconds then off

4. Circuit repowers after 2 minutes for 5 seconds then off

5. Repeats cycle until power removed from timer

Seems a 555 would be a good basis from what I have read but need some advice.

A single 555 circuit probably cannot do this. Multiple 555's maybe. However, this would be a piece of cake for a small single chip microcontroller. You would have to learn some programming. It is a useful and transferable skill.

You can do what you want with one of these ready made Timer Modules:

Whichever timer solution you go for, the need for 12V / 12A output switching means that you will need a power FET or automotive relay.
