a very long time ago I built a very simple cro.

with todays technology this could be improved on.

my theory behind this was (Then) the new bargraph driver ICs driving cathode of a bank of 10 led's, and the anode of 16 to a 74ls154 1 of 16 decoder and a 74ls94 to drive that. a 555 timer to trigger the scan.

this as said is very simple and the display may lose some sensative visuals, but by varying the 555 you can get to a point of expanding the waveform to examine it closer.

the rest I will leave up to your imagination.

I used 160 led's grouped 10 by 16.
common cathode 16 across and common anode 10 high.

good luck if anyone is interested.

I am happy to supply feedback.
it helped a lot in my early days
