short circuit protection

hi
if anyone know idea about short circuit protection please tell me and its better to send circuit diagram if avaliable.

use a fuse! (if working with high amps)
comman voltage regulators(like 7805/12 etc) also have the short circuit protection.

The question is: what are you trying to protect, and what is the current and voltage?
