Recording Module

Hoping someone can help My 3yr old son and I model railroad and we are looking for some help on a record/playback module. Radio Shack used to carry an item like this in Canada but no longer (276-1323) 20 - 30 seconds should do the trick of recording a train over a crossing. Any help will be appreciated. Currently we have a Alternating LED Flasher connected to a Dark activated Relay (DPDT) the other side of relay is going to trigger the recorded playback. The power supply is 9V DC.
Any help is appreciated
As you can being not an expert in electronics simple circuits are what we can deal with best.

You can use voice recorder ICs that are easily available now.

Tou can also use ISD1416 for 16sec.Excellent sound with minimal external components.
