Power fan every x-seconds for x-amount of time?

Hi, I'm a newbie in electronics and I need help.

I'm working on a little project, and I want to have a fan (similar to the ones in the computer) blow air out of the box to cool it down.

The problem is, I don't want the fan to operate non-stop, since it won't heat up that much and also because I don't want to drain the battery.

So my question is, how can I have the fan spin for 2 seconds at 60 second intervals without draining the battery as much as a direct connection to the fan would?

Thanks for your help.
Alex.

A 555 circuit will do the job for you.

Read about them here.

You would then drive a Transistor with the 555output to provide the current for your fan.
