PICC and XC8

a slightly odd question, is PICC what was Hitech C? if so then i take it Hitech C is now part of the XC8 compiler?
the reason i am asking is because i have the chance of the PICC book really really cheap and figured it would be worth getting as it would still be relevant to some degree for XC8

XC8 C is completely backward comparable with Hitech C... I have compiled several of my old code on the new compiler without any changes whatsoever.

thats good news then! i am going to start C over again, my code is scrappy at best and too much copy and paste. Also i want to go more in depth.
