My last job, we were kind of free to set our hours, only requirement was meeting the schedule posted by the project manager. Sounds nice in practice but schedules were often difficult to meet, in the end, long hours, exempt or not.
One of my many 'pet peeves' is when people push their OCD like self imposed rules and requirements on others with no regards for the realistic or rational implementation of them by others.
