I want to record some wave sounds from my computer to the chip but the
electret microphone has terrible quality and hiss. Can I hook it
directly to my sound card bypassing the mike somehow?

I've been just holding it up to the speaker.

Thanks.

Whatever the circuit is, you will probably have to adjust the impedance once you remove the microphone because of the Line Out on the sound card.
Perhaps if you supply the circuit, someone might be able to point out a simple solution...

You can simply bypassing the internal preamp. just use the ANA IN with the serial condenser and potmeter for level adjusting.
