Is TCRT1000 suitable to sense person enter a queue?

Is it possible for me to use this TCRT1000 to sense person enter and exit a queue?

datasheet of TCRT1000 is attached. Your help will be much appreciated!

It might work if you require everyone to wear reflective clothing.

The data sheet shows a useful range of 2mm to 5mm.

As long as they are fat white ants. Little black ones won't cut it.
