Inrush from 48V battery into 9mF of power supply output capacitance

We are developing a 12kW , 48Vout Power supply with 9mF of output capacitance.

It is for a customer load which also has a 72Ah lithium battery connected in parallel with the load. (there is no inrush circuit on the load).

So we designed an inrush limiter to staunch inrush from the customer’s battery into the power supply’s output caps upon connection…however, the customer has requested we remove this, and that we simply make the connection, and tolerate the contact sparking as their battery inrush’s into the power supply output capacitors.

How long do you think the connector will last even if its highly rated up for such treatment?
 
if you want µf hold the alt key and type 230.. Unless you want milli farad then you are correct, just put mf.. The Inrush current will be quite high.. But looking at ALL your other threads on this subject, the battery is supposed to suppress it... 72A Lithium... Do you mean 72v lithium?
 
Thanks, it is 9 milliFarad.
Its a 72 Amp.hour lithium battery.
Its voltage i believe is some 50V
 
KISS. Use two connectors, one with a precharge resistor to be connected first, then another for the bulk current. By the time the operator has time to connect the second connector, the caps should be safely charged.
If you need to add BFU protection, add some additional pins or some other security measure to the main connector so that the whole thing would not run without the main connector actually connected. It will not protect the contacts if you plug the main connector first, but at least it wont destroy the precharge resistor if run only from the first connector.

Or if you can find one, get a connector that has shorter and longer pins, so that the precharge ping goes in first and then the main power pin, like SATA does.
 
How long do you think the connector will last even if its highly rated up for such treatment?
How many connection cycles it will endure is totally dependent on what the connector is?

Is this connection made once during product assembly? Or multiple times per day?
