Fibre optic talkset tester homebuild circuits needed

Hi

Looking for circuit diagrams or weblinks to other sources of info.

Need to make a relatively inexpensive optical fibre 'talkset' test set pair, enabling half-duplex audio conversation (i.e. one at a time talking, PTT) over a single individual multimode optical glass fibre.

For use during basic fault-finding on already terminated multi-core fibre cables: to identify individual fibres and do basic continuity check of fibres by shining light from other end (already have simple flashing ultrabright LED testbox, which does the job ok over distances required between buildings - only a few hundred metres or so).

Would be much easier if could also talk to the guy at other end, but can't use radios or mobile phones etc. on many sites. Commercially available fibre 'talksets' around £400 a pair. Don't need 'proper' test equipment (£1000 for basic set of calibrated light source/power level meter).

Guess I need a mic.amp, speaker/headphone amp, multimode fibre transceiver, and some way to modulate the analogue audio onto tranceiver carrier. Anybody got any ideas/info? Any other fibre projects would be of interest too.

cheers
