Converting NPN sensor output to PNP type output

The only time POWER is used is when the sensor's NPN or PNP output transistor is "ON", otherwise there is no power drain from the design.

That's the point - it's taking considerable power while it's ON - which for my application is 50% of the time. Currently (no pun intended) consumption with the FET switched OFF is 0uA (or at least less than 1uA) and 10uA when switched ON (average 5uA). Powering an opto-coupler is going to make a mess of those figures :D
