That's the point - it's taking considerable power while it's ON - which for my application is 50% of the time. Currently (no pun intended) consumption with the FET switched OFF is 0uA (or at least less than 1uA) and 10uA when switched ON (average 5uA). Powering an opto-coupler is going to make a mess of those figures
