IR needs line of sight. RF is bluetooth. Don't mistake medium of transmission for protocal.

Bluetooth operates using RF , Rf can have very low range (passive RFID) to very long range (space crafts) , band width depends on freq , LOS and N-LOS operation possible . IR used in Tv remote and OFC , or LOS communication ,very high bandwidth
