Canada Looks Good

I am a Canadian, born and raised. Alberta, like all other locales, needs laborers in many fields including heavy truck drivers. Jobs advertised at the Service Canada website ( Bienvenue au Guichet emplois / Welcome to Job Bank) gives details about many driving jobs available. I drove heavy ( over one tonne) trucks in summer and winter - it has its challenges. Currently, there is a shortage of diesel fuel blamed on refinery shutdowns and upgrades. Odd isn't it - you need diesel fuel to deliver a trailer full of diesel fuel?

Trucking is a lonely occupation. Many days on the road, irregular schedules and loads, and homesickness plague many drivers. Perhaps the most stressful areas are the coastal ports and the international border. Movies glamorize the industry ( Smokey and the Bandit, Convoy, Cannonball Run) and never tell the whole story.

Before you can apply for these jobs, you must immigrate to Canada and establish an home base address. Then you can apply for a driver's license ( Class 1 or 3) and learn the business. You might have to take a Rockies course ( mountain driving), as these roads can be very challenging in winter. Trucking bans are seasonal, or geared towards a specific size or weight of truck.
