Base voltage of 2N4401.

So I see no where in that circuit that any significant reverse bias voltage is being applied to a base-emitter junction.
No, or any 6V forward bias either.

However, I'm not happy with sticking 40mA permanently down the base of Q4, if for any reason the circuit doesn't oscillate Q4 won't last very long. As opposed to being 'fail save' it's more 'fail catastrophe' :D
 
Yeh, I learned this new trick where I can measure the average and rms voltages and it looked good to me.
