Anyone ever use Cypress EZ-USB FX2LP before? It's a USB based micro controller with an 'enhanced' 8051 core. I was going through some junk and took apart a Pinnacle Studio's USB 500 only to find out just how generic the hardware on it is. The Cypress chip is the front end to an Altera Cyclone FPGA there's also a 1394 controller chip, attached to the Cyclone as well as the video decoder and dual channel AC97 output chip. I haven't downloaded the software yet but it looks like it's possible to reprogram the Cypress chip and basically hijack all the hardware on the board.

Was just wondering if anyone had used the Cypress chipset before and their opinions of it.

It just seems a shame to throw something like this out, it's basically a full USB firewire video/audio dev board waiting to be reprogrammed.
