Hi all:
I am taking the dive into C.
Can I get some advice on which compiler/IDE to go with?

There seems to be a few around, so which is best from a developers POV?

thx much

I use XC8 for all my mid range pic stuff... I use SDCC for all my 8051 stuff

The XC8 is a tad expensive. but it suits my professional needs.... SDCC is for messing really..

You didn't specify what chip you are using.... If you go for AVR then AVR studio has a good C compiler...

I am leaning towards XC8, cause I can do PIC assembler and embed it for precise optimizations. Its pro cost is like 10x buying Arduino dev hardware though. I prefer to go with ANSI C if possible for library flexibility across platforms.
