Stun Gun

This stun gun is powered by a 9V battery. The transformer steps up the voltage to about 1800V (but with very low current). A 555 timer IC is used to generate a high-frequency output. A 1 MEG variable resistor can also be used at the output to drop the voltage, but this is optional. If you build this circuit, be careful, as it outputs a high voltage. Touching the output leads will induce a painful shock.

Help on transformer

Could you please provide more details on the transformer.
Is it the output transformer used in pockect radio sets?

Thanks

I would be curious to know whare you got a 1800 volt 1 meg pot from?
Most pots are rated at 250 volts or Less.
Typically 1/4 watt resistors are also rated at 250 volts.
Typically 1/2 watt resistors are also rated at 450 volts.

very clever but i would replace the 555 with a crystal oscillator... much easy to wire and replace. however this is a cool circuit... ciao!

Chem,

I know you're going to do a head smack (to one of us), but of course the resistors are on the 9v side.

Technically, R4 is a variable resistor rather than a potentiometer, but it's still a fair question.

HI

AN OTHER SCHEME FOR HIGH POWER SUPPLY MODIFIED TO BE USED

AS STUN GUN WITH HIGH OUT PUT. TAKE A LOOK

That is not a good Idea for this type of circuit, especially if you want a compact stun gun.

All you need is to make a board.

This might be a silly question, but how would you go about testing something like this? (apart from asking a friend to "just hold this....")

looks like it

its an audio transformer and i seen them tons of times

last time i saw one it was in a broken tv and i think i saved it

now i have to find it

whats Q1?

it looks to be a transistor but i want to be sure before i get one from radioshack

It's a very common NPN power transistor, 3A 40W, in a TOP66 package.

The transformer is a driver transformer, NOT an output one.

I have built it take a look!
