When testing a transist out of my Ta 1010 amplifier I have removed the wires from the legs and when setting the digital multi meter in Diod testing both legs the reading will not stay steady. Does this mean that the transistor is faulty

Either that or your multimeter needs a new battery?

"Diode test" may use rather more current than voltage modes & show up a battery that is near dead.

Thank you for your advice Such a simple thing that I had forgotten.
merry Christmas to you all
