Voltage regulator terminology explaination

I've never had to use a voltage regulator before. I'm building my own power supply since lab supplies are expensive. The simple ones only have one voltage.

I was thinking of getting maxim voltage regulator IC but on their website they use the following terms:
R/C adjustable
sequence
track
monitor

what the heck do they mean ?

You really need to provide a link to the specific regulator from Maxim that you are looking at. Additionally, depending on your needs a regulator as simple as a LM317 may be all you need.
