suggestions for project ideas

I need to do a project for my final semester. I've been searching a lot but couldn't come up with any topic . . I have to do an electronic project based on microcontrollers(8051 or PIC) or using matlab or using VHDL programming.. It would be of great help if anyone could suggest some topics or ideas.. I need to complete this by march..

Base your project on your hobbies or interests. Look around you at electrical/electronic/electro-mechanical items and ask yourself what improvements or extra features you would like them to have.
