Strange bluetooth speaker battery replacement problem

I have bluetooth speaker model Divoom Voombox Outdoor.
After 6+ years its battery died.

It is usual 3500 mAh li-pol battery, but with rare shape, very narrow and long.
There is no batteries of that size in the shops, so I bought 1500 mAh li-pol battery.
For some reason bluetooth speaker cannot even turn on for a second with new battery.
With old battery it could work for 1-2 seconds.
I tested it with other 1000 mAh li-pol battery, same problem.
New batteries are 100% ok, good voltage etc.
Old battery has voltage etc of almost dead battery.

What could be the reason of such strange behavior? Do bluetooth speakers require big current on startup?

While I am not familiar with that unit I would have connected the newer battery in parallel with the original one (with clip leads) if the replacement would not work( just for kicks--to see if speaker would work with that configuration). If no joy, then speaker may be at fault.

What was the rating of the original battery? 3500 mAh? Or 1500 mAh? If the original one was 3500 mAh, then the replacement must be a 3500 mAh one too.
