STK0038N replacement?

Hi, anyone know whether STK0039 / STK0035 / NTE1282 / ECG1282 / can be used in place of STK0039N? Also STK0040 seems pin compatible...like to try it in an older amp and see if it smokes or works.

Why is this such a persistent topic? Was/is that amplifier used in a lot of products? Just being curious.

There were a considerable number of different STK series output modules, used in a wide variety of different equipment, and they generally became obsolete fairly quickly - back when I was doing TV/Audio repairs it was a big problem. Generally there was no replacement for them once they had stopped been made, but some manufacturers (such as Kenwood) came up with repair 'kits' - these were essentially a small PCB with a later STK soldered to it, plus a few extra components, you then fitted it in place of the old module upside down, and ran wires from the new small PCB down to the original PCB.

It wasn't a cheap option, but the STK's weren't cheap anyway.

As an engineer I made sure the amp I bought didn't use an STK, but was entirely discrete.
 
Thanks... it looks like still a wide range of options. even the STK1045 , STK1035 might work as well. The amplifier is JVC A-S5, older but the sliver faceplate is pristine, so i would like to rescue it.

I have some familiarity with STK. I have several Akai's.....AMU-06, AMU-03, AMU-22, PA-W04 and PR-A04, all silver brushed aluminum.

The PA-W04 and the AMU-06 use a pulsed power supply utilizing a quite smaller transformer in a metal case rendering a very stable DC with very little ripple.
The PA-W04 had the STK0050IIs replaced once.

They sound quite good, so curious to compare to the JVC

A long time ago, in one of the electronics magazines (can't remember which one), they did an article about upgrading an STK based amplifier - I can't remember much about it, except that probably the greatest improvement was removing the bootstrap capacitor, and replacing it with a constant current source.

STK0039N is the number, sorry

Ebay source claims NTE1280 is the "right" replacement, but it seems NTE1282 or ECG1282 or STK1045 would do as long as some pin adjustments is made
