Hi everybody,
While connecting an 80gb seagate hard disc by mistake i placed it on a metal part and its one small IC burned out.... Again i tried to connect the hard disc with all safety, but it started to get heated... So is there any way to access data in that hard disc since no damage to magnetic part? Somewhere i read, using 8051
one can use hard disc as a MP3 player? Do anybody got its circuit? And one more thing , burnt part
is not exactly IC, it has only two terminals and i think it may be IC fabricated resistor or fuse something. And sorry I cant read anything written on that small part since its burnt completely...

There are companies who specialise in recovering data like that - but you're talking a LOT of money! - but if it holds the accounts for your multi-million dollar company a few thousands (or 10's of thousands) isn't really a great concern.

Why not restore from your backups? - you do have backups don't you?.

Any MP3 player type device uses all the existing electronics, so would be no different to using a PC.

One method you could possibly try?, buy an identical hard drive, and change the PCB over - it's not guaranteed, but may be worth a try?.

Ya that may be a good solution, but is it safe to remove the magnetic disc from the hard disc? Or is it possible to change the PCB without exposing the magnetic part?

Hey Nigel Goodwin, surprise dude,
I saw my new hard disc just now and same component on that also, not written anything on that, i just removed that burnt component from PCB,,, And now that hard disc is working, Cant believe, Anyway thank u very much
Now the next thing is how to convert that to MP3 player using 8051?

That part is of size nearly 1mm*2mm(mili metre) If its recognizable in Photo i ll surely put up the photo.. I ll try
hi, chetan, what is the HDD model No. seagate 80gb i undersatnd.

The damaged part is probably a diode (assuming it only has two pins), it's quite possible that any diode will do.
