if i have 10 10k resistors in a series and a 50k resistor is placed parrallel across them all what will be the overall resistance and can you explain in detail what you do to get the answer

1/R total = 1/R1 + 1/R2 etc for resistors in parallel. The 10 10k in series make 100k as was pointed out. I usually check with a multimeter aswell.

(10*10K) || 50K -> 33.3K

yea thats bang on, the total resistance for resistors in parallel will always be just less that the smallest leg of that parralel arrangement.

The easy way to do it is to realise that 50k = 100k/2, so 50||100 = 100/3 = 33.333k
