Why is it that each two pins in a PTM are connected?

Inside the switch, each pole is basically an uninsulated jumper wire. Pressing the button pushes a conductive disk or square down onto both jumpers, making a connection between them. The internal schematic actually is an exact representation of this.

Connecting them together makes the output pins much stronger.
