I have been scratching my head on this one all day:

I have an Analog Devices ADG452 cmos switch:
https://www.electro-tech-online.com/custompdfs/2010/10/ADG451_452_453.pdf

It is being powered as follows:
Vdd = +12V
Vss = -12v
GND = 0V

I have a 5Vpp audio signal connected to pin2 and I am monitoring the audio output at pin3.
I am trying to get the switch to change by manually connecting pin1 to the +12V rail.

No matter what I do the switch is always on and I can't get it to change.

Any ideas on something simple I should be considering with this device?

you must set the switch control pin to a logical zero to turn the switch off. You can't just leave the pin floating.

Turns out the problem was I did not notice there was a seperate power pin for the logic circuits called Vl. Once I connected this everything was fine.
