If they were lip-syncing, then I would've thought that the singing would be better than if they were doing it live with whatever action was on screen at the time. Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the genre, I'm actually a fan (more the music than the movies). I know that some modes have microtonal options for various pitches in some contexts, but I don't think that's the case in the piece heard in your video. It's just bad singing.
