When I click on the insert link button above () I now get a blank dialog box instead of the previous one in which you could insert the URL.

What's wrong with Firefox 3? I've found it much better that 2.

A quick update,

The problem is still the same.
Nobody else seems to have the problem and so I assume it is something wrong on my end.
I can now type the relevant tag quicker than the insert url dialog appeared and so the problem is no longer.:D

It's still odd though. Do you have any virus stuff that you installed recently? Your computer might be blocking it as a "malicious attack" or something. Just a thought.
