You don't want to clip a transistor power amplifier - they sound horrible, for a transistor amp you build clipping in the preamp, and run the power amp clean.

you can "soft-clip" the signal. by changing the diode types you can tailor the sound to what sounds best. by mixing silicon and germanium diodes, you can get even harmonics, which sound better than odd harmonics.
