You write the program in proper syntax. You hit file, save, and give it whatever name you need. I usually have to hit save twice in my version of MPLAB (the second time saving as a .asm specifically). The go to project, quickbuild. Once it is "quick built" it will be converted into a hex file that can be flashed in.
