Microprocessor class and PICs?

Im currently taking a Microprocessor class in College. We are using the 1600 series motorola processor. Are PIC's much different from these?
Im going to start a project with a 16f628 PIC.
Is the code much different between these two microprocessors?
Am I going to have to relearn a brand new list of code?

I am not familiar with the 1600 series from motorola, but I would imagine the architectures are different, and I'm sure the instruction sets are different.
