Mechanical Vertical lift/lower

Hello,

My name is Myles Davis. I am new to this form but stumbled upon it looking for information on a simple device i am trying to make.

I have an android tablet installed in my truck as the media center, it's poorly mounted into a custom dash i made(that looks awful) i'd like to bring more tech into this build, and thought of the last radio i had. It was a slide out touch screen. The screen would slide out, then tilt upwards. I was wondering how feasible this would be, and what parts i would need to accomplish this goal?

I have found threads that will help me with making the main slide out, but i still need some kind of direction for the tilting upwards. Do you guys have any ideas?

Was this meant to be electrical solution? I was thinking completely mechanically like a locking rack support or a ratcheting tilt joint. Because I was imagning a very thin slot from which the tablet and tray slide into.

How much angle?

When it slides in and out of the dash, it would be flat. When it tilts up, it may need to go up to as much as a 90 degree angle. Though, i may have less depending on visibility of the screen. Ideally, i'd like to have a tilt adjust, but it's not a requirement.

If it needs to be automated then use weak pneumatics or something like that in place of the bracket. Or I guess you could also use a linear actuator.

I would like it to be as automated as possible, but don't really mind a few switches or knobs here and there.

Well...that's a softa hinge so it's probably much larger and stronger (stronger locking force too) than it needs to be. The page says just a pair (or maybe one piece) weighs 750g and is 4mm thick steel.

I would look at some funkier cabinet making hinges, including but not necessarily limited to:

Or lid supports like these:

Unsure if by automated you mean it turns on when you power on your stereo or your car, or that you slide it out by clicking a separate button (which to me seems pointless but maybe it's not).

The tablet is currently set up to power on when acc powers on, so when i turn the key two notches, or crank the engine. It would be awesome if i could get this thing to slide out, and tilt up when power is turned on, but if it's safer(don't want to to try and tilt when it cant.) then i'd be fine with having a second switch for that portion.

That's what limit switches, delay timers, and proximity sensors are for.

I'm thinking something like this but horizontal.
When stored, it is face down inside a slot.
There is a torsion / twist type spring trying to flip it vertical as exits its slot. Probably won't flip vertical until the last 10 % of its stroke. Maybe a roller on the top outer edge of the slot to guide it and so it won't rub as the spring tries to flip it vertical on its way out of the slot. The opposite happens when pulled back in the slot.

I like the CD disk loading mechanism from the other thread but you need more stroke.

Or upside down so it hangs with a hinge spring that gets assisted by gravity to keep it rigid

Aren't self-closing door hinges seriously oversized for this? It's really up to you. You're the one who has the hinge in front of you to know whether it's suitable or not.

I could fit two of the hinges i have, and still have an inch or two of open space on the back of the tablet. I'll do some testing tonight.
