Kaput: thru-hole ICs

Not a rant, only an observation: I have noticed the next casualty in the ongoing chipaggedon, thru-hole devices.
And I fully get it, as manufacturers seek ways to optimize production capabilities, it is a sound business decision to phase-out the slower moving components, which will almost always be legacy products in THT format.
What do you think it will happen? Will the THT devices migrate to production centers in China or India, or will they go the way of the dinosaurs?

I don't think there's a conspiracy to get rid of through-hole chips. Rather I'd say chip manufacturers are building the stuff that sells the most, particularly now with the backlog. Have you looked inside a smartphone recently? Do you see ANY through-hole parts in them??

I never said there was a conspiracy. I actually mentioned it is a sound business decision to phase out slower moving components.

Sadly another nail in the coffin of DIY electronics, the variety built at home on a piece of veroboard or similar.

Yes, through-hole-components will disappear, and DIYers will need figure out how to deal with surface-mount parts.
