I'll bet the computer uses a low current test of the bulb continuity, probably as little as a few mA.
Try putting a resistor in parallel with your HID ballast. Try a 150ohm 5w. You can just leave that connected across the ballast, it will waste abut 1w but only whent he lights are ON.
