Help with 12 VAC - 5VDC

Anyone have any schematics of how I might go about doing this.......

its 12 VAC, 150 mA of current..........I need at least a clean 5 volt DC signal......

Hi,

this should do the trick- see the diagram attached. The diodes are 1N4001, and the .1uf capacitors need to be rated for at least 25V or so.

I don't mean to sound stupid..........but how would I wire the four diodes together on a solderless breadboard
 
The 4 diodes together like that is called a "Bridge rectifier". You can buy bridge rectifiers in a nice package with 4 pins making it easy to solder to your board.
