HDQ Communication

I must constantly measure the state of charge on a 12v Lead acid battery. I am looking at fuel gauge chips from texas instruments which use a one wire HDQ communication. Does anyone here have experience wiring HDQ to a UART on a pic. What was your experience?

Any input would be greatly appreciated
