Gsm circuits

Hi there.
Iam in a collage project which need to use a gsm circuit to control a tv using SMS. but i cant find any starting place for such circuits or systems, please help :cry:

I'm thinking it would be maybe easier if you go with GSM phone that has built in hardware modem.
Then just interface that phone to the microcontroller. And the micro can do the work of controlling TV.
Of course, there is lots of programing involved, but. :roll:
