I orderd some 2N3055 transistors and i tryed them out.The thing was not working as it should. So i tested it.an light 100mA load no problem. Then an short thurn at a 10A load. But then then colector and emiter got shorted! WTF!!! Its rated at 15A continues how cod it blow. The thing blows at 3A. Somting is defently not right here.

So i sawed up the metal can and found out an silishly small dye whith silishly small conections, also the dye was coverd in some silicon like thingy.Ok lets check the internet and yep.I found an froum on wich a guy got the exsactly the same ones. They sead that none have an red print on it(myne had the number printed in red) and that there shoul be nothing on the dye(i had white silicon ruber on it)
Now it was final i got fake transistors!!!

Any of you got the same?

as i have bought few transistors and never these particular ones it has not happened to me but i have heard that the 2N3055 is a favourite number to put on transistors just to flog them off.

I need to buy some of these myself, will be ordering from Rapid electronics. Hope I don't end up with duff ones, would never have even considered that happening.

u never know i would suggest trying alternatives as i know it they are not particuly used for specialised things they are just general purpose

Yeah even got into this problem sometime back, if you open the tin cap you will find some TO-92 package transister inside. I went back to the shop, bought one more and opened it infront of shop owner himself, the only reply i got from him was "he is not that creative".

I think there are about 100 000 of there fake ones out there.Unluckuly im a unproud owner of a few.

Hi,

get a few hundred more of them.

Cut the case (dome top only) and make a solar panel out of them wiring them as diodes.

BTW, I'd never use a 2N3055 without heat sink at currents exceeding 3A.
