event counter for pooltables

i am in desperate need of a simple event to count the number of times a slot in a pooltable is worked..it will need a 4 digit screen.was thinking along the lines of the slot touching a connector and completin a electrical circuit which would cause the counter to add one. has anybody got any ideas or anything to help me?

You can buy counters with a display that add one for every input pulse such as this. Then it's just a matter of generating the signal (typically a short 5V pulse) to perform the count.
