hi pls bare with me since i'm new

i am building a project using the pic18f97j60, i'm having trouble writting the software code to initialize the ethernet using microchip C18 with MPLAB
any help would be appreciated very much.

i need to know which registers do i have to set in order for the ethernet to work, i downloaded the data sheet from microchip and the only registers i understood are the
ECON1; ECON2; ESTAT; EIR

It's much more complex than just setting the registers. Microchip has a free Ethernet stack for C18 on their site.

i downloaded the TCPIP stack from microchip, but it seems like it works with the development board.
i plan on connecting the pic to a network without the development board
