I dont think that would work for the "strong arm" IC. see how the soldered connections are all the way under the IC, (the 16x16 grid of dots). You would have to cook it to remove that IC
Actually, a small hot air gun will remove them intact without destroying them, but it takes practice. Also, soldering them into another project is going to be tricky too.
As Bonxer said, the desoldering vacuum aka solder sucker and the desoldering braid as probably the least expensive ways to do desoldering. If you can afford it a Pace MBT desoldering station is a great way to go. Unfortunately, it's priced outside the range of your normal hobbyist...
